Weekend finds

OMG! I forgot to mention my third obsession!

BROCANTES! (pronounced 'broke aunts', aka. stuffy French oldies selling off their junk at ridiculously high prices. Sometimes you do get an incredibly good deal though). To everyone else, this event would be called a flea market, or a garage sale, or something similar. You get the idea.

So, without further ado, here is what I found this weekend (in three different locations, needless to say the housework did not get done)

A pair of real authentic (rusty) metal boxes straight from the seventies. Flowa powaaaa!!! I think I paid €3 for both boxes

This was an unbelievably lucky find. I pinned a similar bunny to my Pinterest board the other day but sadly the link didn't take me to a lovely shop or anything. Can you believe it has a hole in its bum for cotton wool? Pure genius. €5

I bought this stool for our bedroom and am planning something very special for it. Keep reading to find out! This was also €3 and came from our local recycling facility. They have an open day each year where you can buy amazing furniture including huge wardrobes and old armchairs for next to nothing. It's like Christmas for me, only a little frustrating since there are only 70 square metres of space to fill in my flat.

Not just stripes

It's time for a bunny interlude

Secretary desk

My love for interior design goes A LONG WAY back. I actually wanted to study to become an interior designer after school, but lots of little things added up, and I ended up studying international business and becoming a translator. Then I moved to a tiny little flat near Paris with hardly enough room for my boyfriend and I, let alone for nice furniture. Where am I going with this? Well... last year, we moved! To a much bigger place! and all of a sudden we needed more stuff! And I didn't feel like hanging on to all the Ikea items I had had for years, but I also didn't feel like buying new/expensive furniture from a shop. So I turned to thrifting, and BAM! I was in love!

It all started with this secretary desk that I drove 2 hours to buy from a man with a hyperactive toddler who kept wanting to show me her cat. And her tricycle. And her other cat. And her tricycle.
As you can see it was in mint condition.

All it took was a bazillion hours of sanding and 4 or 5 coats of paint, plus one roll of wallpaper which travelled all the way from the Twickenham subsidiary of my company in the UK via Eurostar/scooter/tube. I also changed the drawer pulls and made damn sure to take this picture mid-move before installing my wifi and speakers to avoid ugly cables.

Here it is when in use

Welcome to my house

Well...hi!
I like bunnies. I kind of have a thing for them. More on that later. First, let me tell you that I also like stripes. To be specific: diagonal stripes that line up to make chevrons. Yes, the truth is, I like bunnies and I like chevrons, but "Bunnies & chevrons" somehow didn't sound quite right for a blog name.
Anyway!
I like to take old furniture and objects and turn them into new things for my home. Sometimes I buy them, sometimes I find them, sometimes I already have them and am sick of seing them. Mostly it turns out OK, sometimes it turns out horrible, and since I like to share, this is where all the action is going to take place. So welcome!! Please take a seat, and tell me what you think.
